Site IST Calendar: Riverbend's IST is scheduled to meet every Friday afternoon. The intermediate grade students will have 80 minute enrichment clusters while the IST meets with one grade level team. The other two grade level teams will be working in their Professional Learning Communities. The following week we will meet with the next grade level, and so on, so we will meet with each group for 80 minutes every three weeks. The primary students will have 60 minute enrichment clusters while we meet with their teachers (also in a three week rotation), with the meetings continuing 20 minutes beyond the school day.
We have a planning meeting on Wednesdays at 3:05, and will collectively set the agenda for Friday meetings then.
How will the IST members communicate protecting confidentiality of students and teachers?
It is part of our norms (see above)
How is the agenda communicated to the rest of the staff?
We will e-mail the agenda to the appropriate PLC (grade level) group following our Wednesday meetings.
How will the IST inform the rest of the staff on a regular basis about its activities, concerns and plans?
We have established a wiki just for Riverbend collaborative work. It is a protected site (so everyone can read it, but only Riverbend staff will be able to edit it.)
What are the strengths of each team member?
Jan Faure - Decades of classroom experience, especially primary.
Sheryl Wittig - a decade + of GT teaching experience, six years of classroom K-8 instruction, plus budding experience in staff development. Strength in technology and technology integration.
Doug Badilla - a decade + of special education experience, especially Level One resource.
Karen Doxey - Master of Arts in Reading, plus has been lit leader for a while.
Brenda Weaver - Fast Forward, Admin. certificate, primary classroom experience, reading council.
Carmen Katasse - Principal, special ed. teaching experience, backwards design.
How can this be converted into roles and tasks that need to be accomplished by the IST at your school?
We are all working to our strengths and referring teachers to our IST colleagues who best can support them.
What are the resources at your school presently for on-going assessment and progress monitoring?
We have had training in Response to Intervention. We are currently administering the DRA2 to all students in the building to get a good baseline of reading levels, strengths, and challenges. This is an area we will be developing this year.
What are a few areas potential support that the IST can provide for classroom teachers and the school?
Mentoring, RTI, assessment, data management, model teaching
How does your plan respond to these areas of need?
Still in the development phase.
How will your IST address the needs of veteran teachers?
Scheduled meeting times with grade level PLC's and IST to 1) develop backwards design units that meet the needs of ALL kids, 2) Structure and data for RTI work.
How will your IST address the needs of new teachers to your building?
We have assigned an IST member to each new teacher in the building. This does not limit them to that one person, but should facilitate the use of the "Collaborative Assessment Log". This is in addition to the state mentor who visits every couple weeks.
How will your IST address the needs and issues of beginning teachers who are new to the profession?
We will use the Tenure Track Plan as a guide, in addition to the Collaborative Assessment Log.
How will the IST decide who will support beginning teachers and provide the confidentiality necessary to build a trusting mentor relationship?
We divided them up based on similar teaching styles and areas of expertise.
How will the IST ensure confidentiality to students, teachers and parents?
It's in our norms.
How will the IST decide which areas of need to address (prioritize)?
We have generally decided that, in our 80 minute meeting every three weeks with each grade level group, that we would start with the RTI work, since time is of the essence. With the remaining time, we will collaborate with the teachers in the development of backwards designed units.
And anything else that your team feels is appropriate to address in developing the IST at your school?
Yes! We decided to set up a wiki for Riverbend collaborative work. (It's too much for this page!). Please visit: http://riverbendelementary.wikispaces.com/
